Metaboli's Q1 2009 results

Turnover up 120% at digital distributor.

London, April 8, 2009 - Metaboli, Europe's leading e-tailer of PC video games for download, today announces that its Q1 2009 turnover grew by 120% compared to the same period in 2008. The company attributes its triple-figure growth to a strong digital distribution strategy in a difficult economic environment.

As part of the strategy Metaboli introduced 2 years ago, the company has established a number of partnerships with leading games publishers, including Rockstar, Paradox and Epic Games, who recently announced that its Unreal games catalogue will be available digitally through Metaboli. Metaboli also forecasts growth over 100% for the rest of 2009, with additional partnerships, the launch of major titles and other projects planned throughout the year.

Jérôme Gayet, VP Marketing & Product, Metaboli explains: “Our triple-digit growth is based on strong fundamentals, namely the introduction of a very attractive promotional plan to our customers and having the largest digital video games catalogue in Europe. The results were also driven by the release of big titles, such as GTA IV, Football Manager 2009 and FEAR 2, which were the bestselling games of Q1 2009”.

Gayet highlights specific promotions showing clear hikes in sales. For example, an offer providing 75% discount on selected Sega titles over 21st and 22nd March saw a 25-fold increase in the number of sales on those products. This also increased the publisher’s revenue by 210% across its entire catalogue.

Pierre Forest, VP Content, Metaboli added: "Metaboli strives to deliver the best value to its customers by offering exclusive products. During the first quarter of 2009 we bolstered our offering with exclusive games launches, including Codemaster’s Leisure Suit Larry, and digital exclusive launches, such as Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 Uprising. We also strive to offer the broadest games catalogue possible, while the traditional B&M retailers are required to limit their offerings to recent blockbusters.”

Metaboli also continues to promote independent publishers with launches, such as The Path, Casebook - Episode One, Mount & Blade, and I-Fluid.
