LucasArts installs new president
Former Ubisoft and Epic man takes top role following predecessor's sudden exit
Paul Meegan is to step into the shoes of Darrell Rodriguez as the new president and general manager of LucasArts, the publisher/developer announced today.
Rodriguez resigned without public explanation last month, with Lucasfilm board member Jerry Bowerman taking the helm while the company hunted for a more permanent replacement.
Prior to the LucasArts role, Meegan was CEO and co-founder of Epic Games China from 2006 onwards. Before that, he was executive vice president of Production at both Ubisoft Montreal and Shanghai, where he managed production of several Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia and Rainbow Six titles.
Meegan has also been studio director at Jaleco Entertainment, and was the founder of independent developer Sinister Games, Inc – which was bought by Ubisoft in 2000. It is no doubt hoped that he will hold the post for longer than its most recent occupant, who departed unexpectedly – along with several members of his executive team – after just two years. Jim Ward occupied the role before that, lasting four years before leaving the company "for personal reasons."
Meegan will officially commence his employment at LucasArts later in June.
