Loughborough College signing

Now a TIGA member along with its BTEC National Diploma in Games Development.

June 1, 2010

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, today announced Loughborough College as its newest member.

Loughborough College was established in 1909 with over 4,000 students. The College is primarily aimed at 16-19 year olds who after leaving the College will either continue in education at University or leave education to enter the workforce.

Loughborough College offers a dedicated course aimed at students interested in working in the games industry. The two-year course, ‘BTEC National Diploma in Games Development’ has been running since 2008 with the first students graduating this summer. The Diploma aims to provide students with training in games design and games technology, as well information about working in the games industry, the careers available and skills required.

Creative industries and computing team leader David Pautsch explains the College’s reasons for joining TIGA: “We are extremely keen to develop links with local games businesses and would like to hear from anyone working in the East Midlands who would be interested in talking to us about guest lectures, work experience, internship programs or establishing a graduate recruitment scheme. We hope by joining TIGA we will have the opportunity to network with games businesses and higher education institutes offering degree level courses in games development.”

Dr. Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO adds: “Loughborough College is one of the few colleges that offer a National Diploma in Games Development to 16-19 year olds interested in working in the games industry. It is important that all institutions are connected with TIGA and its members to ensure students are kept abreast of the latest technology and trends in the industry. We welcome Loughborough College to TIGA.”
