London Games Conference

Digital distribution, cloud gaming and social media the hot topics this November at BAFTA HQ.

Following its sell-out success in 2009, the London Games Conference returns this autumn with a new theme: Survival and Profit in a Changing Industry. The conference and networking event, which takes place Thursday, 4 November at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, will focus on shifts in revenues, platforms and distribution methods for game content. Digital distribution, social media and cloud gaming are just three of the many hot topics heading the agenda.

IGN, Screen Digest and renamed trade body UKIE are already backing LGC 2010. IGN UK has been appointed Platinum Sponsor, whilst UKIE (formerly ELSPA) has offered its endorsement and inclusion of the event within the wide-ranging London Games Festival. Screen Digest’s chief analyst Ben Keen will present an exclusive summary of current and future revenue distribution.

“Tackling the hot topic of digital distribution for games, last year’s London Games Conference debut was a huge success,” commented Stuart Dinsey, managing director of Intent Media.

“This year we are extending the debate to cover everything from cloud-based revolutions such as OnLive and Gaikai, to Facebook, PSN, Xbox Live and challenge-based gaming. We will examine the threats and opportunities for traditional retail, the service sector for new technologies and the crucial strategic choices being faced by developers and publishers.”

Following the recent appointment of former Ubisoft and EA exec Ian Chambers, IGN was quick to express support for the conference: “We’re excited to be supporting the London Games Conference, which has established itself as a key event in the trade calendar,” he said.

Following last year’s inaugural success, Intent Media is expecting this autumn’s conference to be another sell-out, with over 200 delegates expected. Information about pricing, the early bird discount and special offers for UKIE and TIGA members will be revealed post-E3, but Intent has confirmed pricing is being kept intentionally low to allow companies of all sizes and budgets to attend.
