Livingstone honoured with British Inspiration Award

Eidos life president handed Interactive Entertainment award at inaugural event

Eidos life president Ian Livingstone has been handed a British Inspiration Award for his contribution to the games industry at a ceremony that took place in London earlier today.

Livingstone was nominated for the Interactive Entertainment award alongside the Darlings and Sam Houser.

2010 marks the first year the awards have taken place, after being established to recognise the finest creative talent in Britain, as well as those that have acted as an inspiration to others and contributed the most to Great Britain's creative economy.

Also receiving awards were inventor Sir James Dyson, film-maker Nick Park and designer Sir Terence Conran.

Nintendo's David Yarnton, who acted as chairman of the organising committee for the awards, said today: "The UK is the creative capital of the world. With the same hard work, drive and determination shown by the winners and all our nominees, creative people can excel in this country.

"You don't need a great education and there's great freedom for people to express themselves. Punk music, for example, would probably have been banned in many countries but was allowed to flourish here. I hope the British Inspiration Awards will change some people's attitudes about Britain and make them proud."

100 per cent of the net proceeds from the award's London ceremony held today will go to UK charities, including those dedicating to helping families of the country's Armed Forces.
