Kakuro Mania

"Requires no degree in mathematics or physics to play," for a change.

Independent developer, Boyan Kolev, has made available for the Apple iPhone™ and Apple iPod touch® a highly addicting and challenging puzzle game known as Kakuro Mania. You finally have the chance to prove you are smarter than all your friends, family and relatives: and best of all, Kakuro Mania requires no degree in mathematics or physics to play! With its many customizable features, this game is for everyone passionate about puzzle games.

According to Wikipedia, historically, Kakuro, also known as Kakkuro, is a kind of logic puzzle that is often referred to as a mathematical transliteration of the crossword. Kakuro puzzles are regular features in most, if not all, math-and-logic puzzle publications in the United States and elsewhere. Dell Magazines came up with the original English name Cross Sums and other names such as Cross Addition have also been used, but the Japanese name Kakuro seems to have gained general acceptance. The popularity of this puzzle game is immense, second only to Sudoku, which is considered an offspring.

The object of Kakuro Mania is to insert a digit from 1 to 9 inclusive into each cell such that the sum of the numbers in each entry matches the clue associated with it and that no digit is duplicated in any entry. It is that lack of duplication that makes creating Kakuro puzzles with unique solutions possible, and which means solving a Kakuro puzzle involves investigating combinations more, compared to Sudoku in which the focus is on permutations.

Kakuro Mania offers a great variety of grid sizes and difficulty levels making it suitable for anyone from beginner to expert level. The solving of puzzles can be made easier by opting for a clue to explore possible combinations, or activating hints to view possible cell values.
