Jason Avent departs Boss Alien

Studio head of CSR Racing developer leaves after nearly five years of service

Boss Alien is losing its boss human. Jason Avent, studio head of the CSR Racing developer, revealed the news on his Facebook account earlier today.

Avent posted a picture of an office covered in "Sorry you're leaving" decorations, and confirmed his departure in response to a friend's comment. As of that point, he had not disclosed a reason for leaving or what his future plans are.

Boss Alien was founded in June of 2011 by Avent and a number of other employees from Disney Interactive's Black Rock Studio. The new outfit's first title, CSR Racing, was a hit, and the studio was quickly acquired by CSR's publisher, NaturalMotion. NaturalMotion was in turn acquired by Zynga a little over two years ago.

A source close to the studio told GamesIndustry.biz that Avent's departure plans had been known internally for some time, and Zynga VP of Games Chris Plummer has been leading the studio through the transition. With the impending worldwide launch of CSR Racing 2 and Zynga's first quarter earnings set to drop early next month, we would expect to hear more concrete details shortly.
