Intel Extreme Masters

Fifth season moves to Cologne this week.

Cologne, August 16, 2010 – For the second time in Cologne, gamescom visitors will be given the opportunity to experience eSports at the highest level. In addition, they will be able to try out some of the latest computer games blockbusters. The second stop of the fifth season of the global league of video games champions, the Intel Extreme Masters, and the first live event of the Bundesliga (the national league) for computer games, the ESL Pro Series 17, as usual will attract masses to the ESL Intel Alienware Gaming Arena situated in Hall 9. In the Intel Core Zone the latest titles from the computer games market will be available to the public on the fast high-end PCs with the 2010 Intel ® Core TM i7 processors inside. Gamescom, the largest entertainment trade fair in Europe, will take place on August 18 – 22, in Cologne.

Intel Extreme Masters V – the global league of video games champions

After the launch of the fifth season at ChinaJoy in Shanghai, world's best gamers will meet at the ESL Intel Alienware Gaming Arena in Hall 9 at gamescom to compete in the second Global Challenge. eSports stars from Europe, Asia and America will battle in Cologne for the slots in the World Championship in 2011 and their share of $400,000 in total prize purse – the highest prize money for the international league in computer games. The next stop of the Intel Extreme Masters V will be in New York City on October 8 – 10. Apart from the famous Quake Live, gamers will also compete in the long awaited StarCraft ® II from Blizzard. Played for the first time in a professional tournament, the game will have its eSports premiere in the ESL Intel Alienware Gaming Arena.

ESL Pro Series 17

The first Intel Friday Night Game will have its start on Friday (August 20) at 16:00. It is the first live event of the 17th season of the ESL Pro Series, the Bundesliga (the national league) for computer games. The best German gamers will collect their first important points on their way to the Alienware Finals held in Cologne in December. The European award-winning platinum rock band oomph! (“augen auf”) will open the season performing the new ESL Pro Series title song, “Winner,” live on the ESL stage.

In Trackmania Nations Forever which will be played at the Intel Friday Night Game for the first time, we will see Pascal “gaLLo” Jäger from Ochtrup playing against Michael “Ice” Messmer from Metzingen. At 17:50 starts the second game of the evening. In Counter-Strike 1.6 team TBH from Munich will face team ESC Gaming from Berlin. Around 19:00, in the last match of the day, Marcel “k1llsen” Paul from Osnabrück will compete in Quake Live with Benjamin “calipt” Jakob from Oldenburg. The next Intel Friday Night Game will take place in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Essen, Hanover and Offenbach respectively. With €130,000 in total prize money, the ESL Pro Series is the most prominent eSports league in Germany.

Intel Core Zone

In the Intel Core Zone with 30 high-end PCs with the 2010 Intel ® Core TM i7 processors inside, the visitors will be able to try out some of the latest blockbuster computer games such as: R.U.S.E., Civilization 5, Lost Planet 2, Need for Speed World, Star Trek Online, Guild Wars 2 and Napoleon Total War. Moreover, on the ESL stage, the public will watch the presentation of StarCraft ® II and the European premier of SHOGUN2.

eSports and the latest computer games are not the only things that attract people in such large numbers. There will be many opportunities to win some really attractive prizes which would make the heart of each gamer beat faster. One of them is, for sure, high quality 2010 Intel ® Core TM i7 processor. Ten of them will be given away at the ESL Intel Alienware Gaming Arena.

ESL TV, the IPTV station, will report live from the venue. At www.esl.tv eSports fans will be able to follow all tournaments in Hall 9.
