Intel Extreme Masters

$57,000 in prize money divvied up in Shanghai.

Cologne, August 11, 2010 – The Electronic Sports League (ESL) has successfully organised the first Global Challenge of the Intel Extreme Masters season V. The event took place on July 29 – August 1, 2010 at ChinaJoy entertainment fair in Shanghai, China. The world's best players competed for their share of $57,000 in prize purse in three disciplines: Counter-Strike 1.6, Warcraft 3 and Defence of the Ancients. In addition, the winner of the CS 1.6 competition was awarded a slot in the Intel Extreme Masters V World Championship that will take place at CeBIT 2011 in March next year. The event held at Shanghai New International Expo Center attracted over 160,000 visitors.

The overall standings are as follows:

Counter-Strike 1.6:

1. Place: fnaticMSI ($14,000)

2. Place: Tyloo.raw ($7,000)

3. Place: Natus Vincere ($5,000)

Warcraft 3:

1. Place: Lyn ($2,000)

2. Place: ReMinD ($1,000)

3. Place: Moon ($650)

Defence of the Ancients:

1. Place: EHOME ($5,000)

2. Place: ToTeam ($2,500)

3. Place: LGD ($1,300)

It is always a pleasure to come to China where there are so many dedicated eSports fans.“ The Global Challenge Shanghai was the first stop of the fifth season of the Intel Extreme Masters which will have its final, the World Championship, at CeBIT 2011. The tournament will have its stops in Europe, Asia and America and the upcoming event will be the Global Challenge Cologne. It will be held at gamescom, the largest entertainment trade fair in Europe.
