3D gesture recognition software adds support for Panasonic 3D image sensor.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - December 7, 2009

Softkinetic, the leading 3D gesture recognition software provider, today announced the support of Panasonic’s time-of-flight 3D image sensor in its iisu™ 3D gesture recognition software platform. The partnership is specifically aimed at the out-of-home digital industries that are increasingly embracing gesture recognition technology.

Based on the input from the Panasonic 3D image sensor, developers can utilize the rich set of tools in the iisu™ Software Development Kit (SDK) to create applications that allow the human body to become the natural input device.

"Softkinetic’s touchless interface technology has been successfully implemented by innovating companies in health, digital signage and interactive marketing projects over the last 18 months," said Eric Krzeslo, CSO of Softkinetic. "We are pleased to offer developers of 3D imaging applications the possibility to use our standard software development kit with Panasonic’s new 3D Image sensor."

Softkinetic’s iisu™ insulates application developers from the low-level technicalities of the 3D depth sensing cameras and it enables precise, real-time tracking of users’ body parts and gestures.

"The new 3D Image Sensor is the result of years of development and improvements at Panasonic that led to our background light suppression technology. Panasonic’s sensor has very competitive specifications, and is perfectly fit for all the out-of-home digital applications," said Mr. Yuji Takada, General Manager, Research & Development Center at Panasonic Electric Works. "We are confident that our collaboration with Softkinetic will help both companies’ users to enhance the capacities of our sensor at their maximum."

Since its launch in February 2008 iisu™ has revolutionized the way people interact with the digital world and the latest iteration features full skeleton extraction, extended multi-user tracking, improved developer tools and much more.
