IGDA board of directors

GameRecruiter's Marc Mencher hoping for a seat.

Thursday, February 5, 2009---Fort Lauderdale, FL---GameRecruiter announced today the nomination of Marc Mencher, CEO and co-founder, as one of the candidates running for an open seat on the Board of Directors for the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). Mencher is a 20-plus-year game industry veteran who has dedicated years of volunteer ism and sponsor support to IGDA chapters throughout the U.S

Mencher was recently nominated for election to the IGDA Board of Directors. Mencher’s platform is focused on increasing IGDA membership, building more appealing membership benefits, creating more cohesion between individual IGDA chapters, fostering open problem-solving and communication between career specialties, improve the financial strength of IGDA so it can provide more services to its membership and grow itself, and provide training and development tools for members to expand their abilities and further the industry. The board election closes on Tuesday, February 24: www.igda.org/board/elections.php.

Mencher is bringing nearly 27 years of game development business management and executive recruitment experience to his nomination for one of the four open IGDA Board of Directors seats. Starting in games as a developer, Marc’s ability to hire talent for his own game development teams became known throughout Spectrum Holobyte and he found himself instead of programming games filling jobs. For Spectrum he hired over 267 people. He then joined The 3DO Company (a games hardware and software developer) and filled more than 300 positions. Marc left 3DO to form his own recruiting firm that specialized in games as a result of his internal staffing experience, now GameRecruiter.

Mencher offers, “Consistently seeking to teach, motivate, inspire and support both new industry and existing professional talent is what motivates me to be involved in the IGDA. I've participated as a speaker and supporter for numerous trade events and schools, providing expertise in career development, team management practices and hiring strategy, which has enabled game companies to advance their objectives on a global basis and in their target communities. If elected, I look forward to contributing the same energy and resources to the IGDA, in collaboration with my industry peers, IGDA members and the IGDA Board of Directors.”

Being an early and avid supporter of IGDA since its inception, Marc has supported membership drives and helped negotiate the smooth transition of the International Game Developers Network (IGDN) into what is known today as IGDA. He has participated in recruiting chapter coordinators and establishing several IGDA chapters, plus he regularly speaks to students and industry professionals about becoming involved with IGDA. He has led roundtables for IGDA at GDC and The IGDA Leadership Forum. GameRecruiter has provided frequent sponsorship support to the organization.

Additionally, Marc Mencher is a recognized game industry editorialist and author of the widely-acclaimed primer, "Get in the Game: Careers in the Game Industry.” Marc was a contributing author for the book, "Game Creation and Careers: Insider Secrets from Industry Experts.” His career development articles have been regularly published in Next Generation News, Game Career Guide, GameDaily, FierceGame Biz and GameWEEK, including his monthly series in Gamasutra, “Becoming a Stellar Game Industry Manager.”

Besides his editorial work, Marc is frequently interviewed on television and radio as an expert on games industry careers. Marc is a regular speaker at the Game Developers Conference, Game Career Seminar and International Game Developers Association (IGDA) events around the country, as well as at college campuses and job fairs. Marc is currently on the national advisory boards for 37 campuses of The Art Institutes and 10 campuses of Westwood College, where he has been instrumental in establishing Game Programming, Art and Design curriculum for both schools.
