Houser brothers recognised in Time 100

GTA creators named among the 100 most influential people of 2009

Time magazine has honored Rockstar Games co-founders and brothers Sam and Dan Houser in its Time 100 list of influential people.

The Housers are among the twenty individuals and teams honored in the Artists & Entertainers section of this year's annual list, the only videogame creators to make the cut.

The short article on the Housers' inclusion, written by The Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman, points out that "unlike theories about videogames and violence, there is a proven connection between regular lives obliterated and the immersive addictiveness of Sam and Dan Houser's universe. You just don't want to leave their world."

"The passion that these reclusive British brothers, 37 and 35, have brought to creating - no, inhabiting - Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City has translated into games that offer quantum leaps in genre-defining fun. None of their videogame industry imitators have even come close."

The Time 100 is an annual list published by Time magazine. The list is generated by the magazine's staff and contributors, as opposed to the similar reader-voted list GamesIndustry.biz previously reported.
