Hi-Tech Computer Animation Course Launches At Beds Uni

The growth of the gaming industry and the increase in animated films has led to the introduction of a new hi-tech degree course at the University of Bedfordshire.

Beginning in September, the BSc (Hons) Computer Animation is designed for flexibility between computing and media. The skills developed on this exciting course will allow graduates to work in both the film and television industries, computer games development and various roles in computer programming, CD ROMs and websites.

Areas of study include:

Computer graphics Cell animation 3D modelling 3D set construction Multimedia Interactive animation Digital special effects and composing for video Non-linear digital video editing The course will also benefit from £50,000 of new hi-tech equipment including motion capture suits and a new computer graphics lab worth £60,000 plus.

Head of Computing and Information Systems, Professor Carsten Maple said: "Computer animation is a rapidly changing field in which technologies and hardware evolve at an increasing rate, but with a consistent need for employees with core creative and technical skills and the ability to adapt.

"This course is designed to prepare students for professional employment or further academic development in the constantly-expanding areas of computer animation. It gives students a unique opportunity to benefit from the expertise of staff across key disciplines, and meets the requirements from industry for computer animators for film production and games development.

As well as developing key skills in demanding areas of computer animation, students will have access to high quality animation production facilities."
