Hellemental

Former Crytek man Luke Stafford heading up development of Unity-powered iPhone action/strategy title.

Chicago IL – Dirty Edge, the game development division of INTERSOG, has hired veteran Crytek game producer Luke Stafford to lead the development of their new Unity game, Hellemental. Hellemental, which was released to the App Store on February 3rd, takes mobile 3D gaming to the next dimension, combining equal parts strategy and action in a visually stunning environment.

Prior to joining Dirty Edge, Luke worked on the highly acclaimed multi-platform title Flashpoint for Codemasters shipping on PC, Microsoft XBOX® 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, as well as helping to ship both DiRT and DiRT II for Codemasters. Most recently working on Crytek’s ground-breaking first-person shooter franchise, Crysis, completing the multiplayer component of Crysis Wars, as well as a yet to be announced title. As Executive Producer for Dirty Edge, Luke is able to leverage his vast PC and console game development knowledge to deliver an exceptional gaming experience.

Dirty Edge could have opted for using the CryEngine platform over Unity to create Hellemental, except for one key detail. A CryEngine license costs several hundred thousand dollars, while Unity is available to developers for free. As the license fees of this kind are a huge barrier to smaller developers, this is why Dirty Edge didn't even consider other popular game engines like Unreal, Gamebryo or BigWorld. The Unity engine, which was runner-up for best OS graphics in the Apple design awards, gives developers all the tools they need to produce high-quality 3D games for mobile devices like the Apple iPhone™. For developers looking for a cost-effective gaming engine, Unity can deliver absolutely stunning results, as is evident with the launch of Hellemental. Hellemental, which is compatible with the Apple iPhone™ and Apple iPod touch®, follows the path of a lone wizard who must use the elemental forces of nature - Earth, Fire, Air and Water - to defeat ravenous hordes of monsters and demons spawned from these very elements. Requiring both offensive and defensive tactics, players must carefully upgrade their weaponry, spells and shields to successfully repel varying enemy attacks.

Spanning 16 unique cities, and offering 3 levels of difficulty, Hellemental is suitable for gamers of all levels and offers players hours of non-stop gaming, a depth of content rarely seen in mobile apps. With stunning graphics, intuitive controls and an immersive gaming universe, Hellemental breathes new life into the Tower Defense genre.
