Handheld Learning 2007 - Debating the Future of Education

The movers and shakers of the education and technology arenas meet to discuss the use of mobile technology within education

Wednesday 26th September/... The third annual Handheld Learning Conference and Exhibition takes place on 10-12th October 2007 at Central Hall Westminster, London. Building upon its success, this year's line-up of keynote presentations and speakers is set to be the best yet, challenging the notion of how education is perceived in the 21st Century.

With a new generation of school children and students fluent in the language of portable technology - whether it's through their mobile phone, PDA or Nintendo DS - there is an exciting opportunity for teachers to utilise this "second language" positively within the field of education. Young people already use mobile technology in almost every aspect of their daily lives ¬- and now it's the time for education to catch up.

The Handheld Learning Conference and Exhibition is the forum to debate this rising phenomenon, as well as an arena to keep up to date with the continual changes that are taking place in this sector. Academics and practitioners join Government policy decision makers, developers, manufacturers and publishers to share and expand their knowledge of mobile technology within education.

Amongst the subjects lined up includes questioning who will supply education in the 21st Century, and whether harnessing this technology will lead to control or empowerment. Leading technology companies like Apple, Samsung and T-Mobile will be using the conference as a platform to demonstrate some of their new products that could be used as tools for learning.

Confirmed keynote speakers include Jim Knight, UK Minister for Schools and Learners and Stephen Crowne, Chief Executive, Becta (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency), as well as respected authorities on handheld learning, Professor Stephen Heppell (founder of Ultralab and CEO of Heppell.net) and Marc Prensky (author of Digital Game-Based Learning).

Graham Brown-Martin, Managing Director, Handheld Learning, says:"Last year over 600 delegates, 70 speakers and 20 exhibitors came to Westminster to participate in what has become one of the world's largest conferences for mobility in learning. With the strongest line-up of speakers and a highly influential steering group, we expect Handheld Learning Conference and Exhibition 2007 to be bigger and better than ever before."
