Glu brings Age of Empires III to mobiles

Microsoft's vastly popular RTS title to launch on handsets in 2008

Mobile publisher Glu has announced the latest in a series of high profile licenses for the firm - a deal with Microsoft which will see the award-winning real-time strategy title Age of Empires III coming to mobile devices in 2008.

Developed by Ensemble Studios, Age of Empires III is the successful third instalment in a series of PC strategy titles that has sold a massive 16 million copies since its inception.

The deal extends a previous partnership between Glu and Microsoft which saw a mobile version of Project Gotham Racing, the celebrated Xbox and Xbox 360 franchise, being launched earlier this year.

"Glu's passion and experience with mobile games is well-known, and we're happy to extend our relationship with Glu and see the 'Age of Empires III' experience made available to a new audience," commented Sandy Ting, director of business development at Microsoft's interactive entertainment business.

Glu itself is, of course, no stranger to developing and promoting strategy titles on mobile devices; the company's own Ancient Empires franchise of turn-based strategy titles has been a major success for the firm.
