Geomerics Enlightens Hollywood At SIGGRAPH 2007

Global games, film and entertainment industry veteran joins ranks

Friday 17th August/... Leading middleware lighting specialist Geomerics has returned from SIGGRAPH 2007 after demonstrating Enlighten, its revolutionary real-time radiosity lighting technology, in a series of private meetings. Traditionally the highlight of the CG industry calendar, this year's SIGGRAPH saw a marked shift towards applications aimed directly at the video games development community, creating a stage that allowed Enlighten's remarkable capabilities to truly shine. This success places Geomerics at the forefront of the real-time rendering revolution, in turn positioning Enlighten as the definitive real-time radiosity lighting solution.

Geomerics also announced the appointment of video game and film industry veteran Chris Deering as a non-executive director. Deering will bring decades of experience to Geomerics, drawing upon roles as president of Sony Europe and chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, as well as earlier high-level positions as senior vice president of Columbia Pictures and executive vice president of Sony Pictures to provide unique and invaluable insight for Geomerics as the Enlighten SDK nears completion.

Scheduled for release in late 2007, Enlighten utilises advanced geometric algorithms to provide a real-time radiosity lighting solution that combines unprecedented naturalism with a host of effects previously considered impractical due to computational load. Diffuse shadows and the reflection of surface colouring, in combination with HDR shading and a full suite of colour diffusion effects, provide a truly dynamic method for lighting any scene. This marks the end of pre-calculated lightmaps and ushers in a host of new creative possibilities for CG and video game artists wanting to 'paint with light' in real-time.

Chris Deering comments: "SIGGRAPH 2007 was the ideal stage for us to introduce Enlighten to the CG industry. Our aim there was to show how Geomerics' Enlighten is capable of coping with the creative lighting demands of the most computer-intensive industries in the entertainment sector. This is thanks to Enlighten's robust and versatile software design, our emphasis on straightforward functionality and most importantly, the superb naturalistic results that it generates with ease."

Gary Lewis, CEO, Geomerics comments: "We're absolutely delighted to welcome Chris Deering to our board of directors. I'd be hard pressed to think of another person with his level of experience in the industries our target market supplies. His appointment was very timely for our debut at SIGGRAPH, which draws attention from any industry working with CGI. Real-time radiosity heralds a generational shift for CG lighting techniques and currently, Enlighten is the only viable real-time radiosity solution."
