GC 2008

Officially an international benchmark fair, no less.

GC - Games Convention 2008

(21 - 24 August 2008)

Press & Trade Visitor Day: 20 August 2008

Leipzig, 29 April 2008

Recognition for Europe's biggest games fair: the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology has officially recognised the GC - Games Convention as an international benchmark fair. The high level of international participation has been decisive in this classification, with 38 per cent of exhibitors and more than 43 per cent of trade visitors coming from abroad last year. The classification involves the provision of funding for GC exhibitors under the programme that supports young, innovative businesses.

The aim of the programme is to help young companies in marketing their innovative products and services. According to the Ministry, international benchmark fairs provide an ideal platform for accessing foreign markets and in turn, for boosting the growth of companies in Germany. In addition, the programme sets out to make German trade fairs better known as marketing tools.

Terms and Amount of Funding

Companies are eligible for funding if their place of business is in Germany and they are no more than ten years old. They must also be a small enterprise by the EU definition with maximum annual turnover of ten million euros and no more than 50 employees. Funding is linked to a new development as a product or procedure which can be internationally marketed by participation at a trade fair.

The programme is supporting the participation of companies on the joint "Start Up" stand being organised by the Leipziger Messe for the GC - Games Convention. In doing so, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology pays 80 per cent of the costs incurred for stand construction and stand rental fee. The maximum limit is set at 7,500 euros per exhibiting company. Registration for the GC 2008 must be submitted at the latest eight weeks before the fair begins. Funding from the Ministry is limited to a maximum of two trade fair attendances.

Further information and application forms for the joint stand can be downloaded from the website www.gc-germany.com/startup.
