GameStop has announced the opening of its first tournament-focused store, combining the retail location with a videogame tournament center

GameStop has announced the opening of its first tournament-focused store, combining the retail location with a videogame tournament center.

The new center, a 4,000 square foot facility located in San Jose, California, will boast 24 networked gaming stations equipped with plasma monitors.

The first tournament, a Madden NFL 08 contest with a USD 1,000 GameStop shopping spree as a grand prize, will be held on December 15. According to the company, local tournament events will occur most weekends, with system-wide tournament finals occurring at least once a quarter.

GameStop currently operates over 5,000 stores worldwide.
