Gamestation hails Wii success with 200 midnight openings

Specialist retailer Gamestation's massive midnight opening for the Nintendo Wii was a success, with the latest Zelda title and Ubisoft's Red Steel proving the most popular software for the new home console.

"Gamestation saw a great reception from opening 200 plus stores last night," Martyn Gibbs, commerical director for the retailer, told GamesIndustry.biz

"All stores held individual events with the Birmingham store seeing more than 250 people queuing to be part of our major launch event."

"Nintendo's execution was first class," added Gibbs. "The bestsellers were undoubtedly The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Red Steel, but everything else performed well above expectation."
