Gameloft secures Driver licence

Driver: LA Undercover due in June

Gameloft has secured the rights to develop, publish and distribute mobile games based on the Driver licence.

French publisher Ubisoft, which has a 19 per cent stake in Gameloft, recently bought the Driver brand from Atari, and has a number of titles due for home consoles and handhelds throughout 2007.

"We are extremely excited to add this licence to our award-winning portfolio of games," said Michel Guillemot, president of Gameloft.

"We have ambitious goals for this franchise and we intend to install a completely renewed gameplay that has never been seen before in mobile games, and we are confident we can take Driver to the next level."

The first mobile release in the series, Driver: LA Undercover, is due for release in June to coincide with the release of Driver: Parallel Lines for Nintendo Wii and Driver 76 for Sony's PSP.
