GAME confirms wage raise freeze

"Difficult decision" made given "uncertain consumer environment", says COO Terry Scicluna

GAME has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it has frozen staff wages to 2008 levels - ruling out any raises.

"In line with many employers, GAME Group has held rates of pay at 2008 levels," commented Terry Scicluna, COO GAME Group UK & Ireland. "While this was a difficult decision to take, GAME felt it was prudent given the uncertain consumer environment."

GAME recently reported record profits and sales for the financial year ended January 31, which saw the company's stock price spike 13 per cent.

A spokesperson commented: "It's important to remember that the results just announced were for last year. Employee bonuses for that year will be paid at the top rate - to reward the outstanding individual contributions made to the Group's performance in 2008."
