UK-based developer Sumo Digital has been bought by Foundation 9 Entertainment, joining a host of other studios including Shiny, Pipeworks and Digital Eclipse.

Sumo has previously been responsible for Virtua Tennis 3 for the Xbox 360, Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast on multiple platforms and Super Rub 'a' Dub for the PlayStation Network.

The company, based in Sheffield with a second studio in India, will come under the new Foundation 9 Europe umbrella, headed up by former Sumo CEO James North-Hearn.

He commented: "We believe joining F9E will bring us tremendous opportunities for growth in the future, as well as the chance to offer many more games to our publishing partners."

Sumo, the first acquisition outside of North America for F9E, is currently working on a number of unannounced titles for "major publishers."
