Fortnite, God of War break monthly revenue records - Superdata

Epic's battle royale makes $296 million in April; God of War becomes fastest-selling PS4-exclusive

In March, Fortnite: Battle Royale became the largest free-to-play console game of all time in terms of revenue and monthly active users. For April, Fortnite smashed its own record, and made $296 million across console, PC, and mobile, according to research firm Superdata.

Superdata's April digital games report showed console spending up an impressive 44% thanks both to Fortnite and God of War. The latter sold an estimated 2.1 million digital units, setting a record as the fastest-selling PS4-exclusive of all time. It more than doubled the sales of the previous record holder, Uncharted 4.

Meanwhile, GTA V Online ended its streak of 12 consecutive months of year-over-year growth in April with revenue declining 9% year over year.

Worldwide, digital spending grew 23% for the month of April to $9.09 billion. All three categories of PC spending (Premium PC, Pay-to-Play, and Free-to-Play) remained fairly stagnant, while console and mobile spending were mainly responsible for the growth.
