Fortnite breaks record for concurrent Twitch viewers
Battle Royale smash hit outperforms previous record holder Counter-Strike: GO
Epic Games' world-conquering Fortnite continues to rack up new accomplishments, having now held the most-watched games event on Twitch.
The free-to-play Battle Royale title set a new record for concurrent viewers on the leading streaming platform, as 1.46 million people tuned in for a tournament last week, PCGamesInsider.biz reports.
The event that drove Fortnite to new heights was its Pro-Am tournament, which teamed up famous Twitch streamers such as Ninja, Markiplier and Ali-A with various celebrities, including DJ Marshmellow, NBA star Paul George, comedian Joel McHale, Star Wars Battlefront II actress Janina Gavankar and more.
The Celebrity Pro-Am tournament was held during E3 2018 and saw these unlikley duos battling for a share of a $3 million charity prize pool.
Fortnite continues to be one of the biggest games on the market, particularly since its mobile debut on iOS earlier this year, with an Android version on the way.
Last week, the rumoured Switch version launched during Nintendo's Direct presentation. It offers crossplay with the PC, Mac, Xbox One and iOS version - although inevitably Sony has refused to enable this on PlayStation 4.
