FMOD

Audio system now supports DTS 7.1 Neural Surround sound on the Xbox 360.

Press Release: Melbourne, Australia. 4th March, 2010

Melbourne, Australia. 26th February 2010. Firelight Technologies, the makers of FMOD Ex API and FMOD Designer 2010, announced today a partnership with DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leading provider of digital entertainment technology. Firelight Technologies has worked with DTS to integrate support for 7.1 DTS Neural Surround™ on the popular Microsoft Xbox 360 console. The support for the 7.1 DTS Neural Surround™ will be integrated into the widely used and respected FMOD Ex API.

“With the continual growth of 7.1 systems in homes we are excited to partner with a company with the heritage of DTS” says Brett Paterson. “We have integrated this directly into our API and this will offer a simple solution for developers to create 7.1 games and seamlessly map their audio through the DTS Neural Surround tool for legacy compatibility with 5.1 and stereo output.”

The support of DTS Neural Surround within FMOD makes it easy for game developers to integrate the technology within their Xbox 360 titles. FMOD has worked to make the process intuitive for customers with a simple initialization flag for the application of DTS Neural Surround. Developers can then provide a consistent 7.1 audio experience across all platforms, even for audio connections like S/PDIF, which cannot traditionally support 7.1. Developers will now be able to create truly cross-platform 7.1 audio and use the same content for the Xbox 360.

“FMOD has a reputation for creating high quality products that are easy to use and incredibly powerful,” says Mark Tuffy, Director of Business Development, Interactive Media at DTS. “By incorporating DTS Neural Surround, there is simply no question that FMOD offers the best audio creation and playback software out there.”

“We think this is a great addition to the Xbox 360 console and allows developers to now support the growth of the home 7.1 surround sound market.” says Paterson.
