Fishlabs drives gaming into the ABYSS

V-Rally 3D showcases new mobile games engine

Hamburg-based games and mobile content developers Fishlabs has announced the debut of its ABYSS mobile game engine with the launch of V-Rally 3D, which is being published by iFone.

Based on Atari's renowned PlayStation series, V-Rally 3D aims to capture the speed, adrenaline and treacherous road conditions of the console games, creating what the company believes to be the most authentic and exciting rally racing title available on the mobile platform.

The first in a series of 3D games planned from iFone, V-Rally 3D is the first exclusive mobile game created using Fishlabs' proprietary ABYSS 2.0 game engine, and runs on 70 3D -enabled handsets.

The game features realistic 3D physics with different settings for acceleration, suspension and car handling that are affected by various track conditions on asphalt, gravel and snow. The game will run at up to 30 frames per second, even without hardware acceleration, and a BREW version is scheduled for release in the final quarter of 2006.

Enda Carey, iFone marketing director, commented: "V-Rally is a unique 3D Mobile driving experience. It's been developed by Fishlabs with sophisticated 3D technology to offer a driving experience close to that of the original console version. It's the best Rally driving experience on a mobile phone".

"We are thrilled to be working with top 10 publisher iFone on such an exciting brand," added Michael Schade, CEO of Fishlabs. "Thanks to our technology mobile gamers can access a console like experience straight from their phone."

Described by Fishlabs as "the world's first 3D rigid body physic and sophisticated AI engine running on Java handsets," ABYSS has been designed to provide maximum performance for 3D mobile games, and is platform independent to support other technologies including BREW, Symbian and MS Windows Mobile.

Incorporating multi-texturing support, a 3D particle system, 3D physics and AI engine, shadow and ghost functionality and a solid workflow system for 3D mobile games based on proprietary development tools, ABYSS also includes a multiplayer engine for real-time Bluetooth gaming and online support for GPRS/UMTS using Exit Games' Neutron technology.

More information on the ABYSS engine, and Fishlabs' forthcoming 3D mobile games can be found by visiting the company website.
