EyeToy manufacturer ramps up production

Nam Tai Electronics, a production company which creates EyeToy webcam peripherals for Sony, has announced that it has increased its production of the devices fourteen-fold in order to meet increased demand.

The company was previously producing 50,000 of the devices each month, and has now increased that to a whopping 750,000 devices a month, in an attempt to meet the demand likely to be caused by the launch of the EyeToy in the USA and Japan.

The peripheral has already shipped a million units in Europe since its launch, and this figure is expected to be boosted by the arrival of EyeToy: Groove, a rhythm action title which is the second game to use the peripheral.

"We are very excited to see that the EyeToy has received such a great market response since its first launch in Europe," commented Nam Tai chairman Tadao Murakami. "We believe that EyeToy will continue to make a great success with its forthcoming release in both Japan and North America."
