Epic Games acquires SuperAwesome

The deal will see the two companies work together on "kid-safe" online services

Epic Games has acquired the "kidtech" specialist SuperAwesome.

The acquisition was announced by Epic today, but it did not disclose the amount it paid for the deal.

SuperAwesome specialises in tools to make digital experiences safer for young audiences. According to Epic, the intention is to "build a wide range of kid-safe services."

"SuperAwesome is the company developers want to work with to make better online content for kids," said Epic CEO Tim Sweeney in a statement.

"We share the belief that digital experiences are better when you go the extra mile to respect privacy and we're thrilled to invest in this future alongside the talented SuperAwesome team."

SuperAwesome CEO Dylan Collins added that, by joining up with Epic, the firm will be able to work "on a scale which simply wouldn't have been possible on our own."

SuperAwesome has worked with more than 300 brands, including globally recognised names like Lego, Hasbro and NBC Universal.

Earlier this week, Epic Games invested $15 million in the user-generated content startup Manticore Games.
