Edinburgh Napier University sign-up

Another educational institution joins TIGA.

April 2, 2010

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, today announced Edinburgh Napier University as its newest member.

Edinburgh Napier University is one of Scotland’s largest universities with offering over 250 degree courses to approximately 15,000 students per year. Edinburgh Napier University offers 2 courses aimed at students seeking a career in the games industry. These are: BSc Interactive Entertainment and Games Development and MA Interactive Entertainment. Edinburgh Napier University is one of the top 10 universities in the UK for graduate employability (HESA 2009).

Kevin Chalmers (Programme Leader for BSc Interactive Entertainment and Games Development) at Edinburgh Napier University explains the University’s reasons for joining TIGA:

“We are joining TIGA for a number of reasons. Firstly, at Edinburgh Napier University we feel it is important to support and engage with industry organisations such as TIGA, to justify and protect our reputation as one of the leading universities in the UK for employability.

“Secondly the University has recently launched a degree in Interactive Entertainment and Games Development and we feel it is essential to work closely with TIGA and the game development community to ensure this degree is of the highest possible standard. We would also like to work with TIGA and the industry to develop work experience opportunities and internships for our students. Finally, we would also like to see TIGA become the hub of the games industry, allowing the cooperation of both academia and industry to ensure the future of the games industry in the UK.”

Richard Wilson TIGA CEO welcomed Edinburgh Napier University to TIGA: “Scotland is one of the hot beds of UK game development and it is right that it should also boast high quality games development courses to support the growing sector. We look forward to working with Edinburgh Napier University to further improve the links between academia and industry”.
