EA Mobile has launched a service allowing users to access the latest information about EA Sports games and sports news, with future plans to let players challenge each other to online games.

EA Sports Link is now available in North America and is split into two main components. Catalogue Content allows access to EA games, ringtones and wallpapers, while an RSS feeder keeps users up to date with the latest sports and gaming news.

"By creating a singular, feature-packed destination for digital sports content, this ground breaking service is going to change the way people experience sports and mobile sports content," commented Michael Marcetti, COO of EA Mobile.

"We believe that the mobile phone is a perfect platform on which to build sports-themed services and provide content for the ever-growing community of EA Sports fans."

EA's latest mobile initiative was first hinted at last week by Javier Ferreira, VP of publishing at EA, who told GamesIndustry.biz that "for Electronic Arts, mobile is a gaming platform but it's also a media channel."

The publisher sees the mobile phone as an essential tool for uniting gamers whatever their format of choice, be it mobile, handheld, PC or home console.
