Though the year is not yet over, Nintendo is predicting that its DS handheld will be the top-selling videogame system of 2007.

Nintendo has already sold more than 6 million DS handhelds in the US through November 30, at a rate of about one sold every five seconds.

"There's no letup in sight," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Nintendo DS appeals strongly to both core and casual gamers, and its momentum is set to propel us into 2008."

Nintendo DS has increased its sales in the US every year since it was first launched in November of 2004.

More than 650,000 DS handhelds were sold during Thanksgiving week this year, surpassing the all-time US Thanksgiving week sales record held by the Game Boy Advance, which sold 600,000 units in 2005.
