DS platform leads Japanese sales

Nintendo's handheld tops the hardware chart for the region

Nintendo's DSi once again tops the Japanese hardware sales chart, according to data provided by Media Create for the week ended February 1.

The latest iteration on the touch screen handheld shifted 55,613 units and, when combined with DS Lite sales of 15,147, the total platform's sales hit 70,760 units.

Sony's PlayStation Portable trailed behind at 44,135 units, with the Wii taking the lead in the home console market with 23,278 units.

The PlayStation 3 maintained a lead over Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the region, with sales of 17,405 compared to those of its rival at 8107.

Closing off the hardware chart is the PlayStation 2 which achieved sales of 5334 units.
