Digital Inspiration

Scottish Enterprise-funded report earns TIGA's approval.

December 17th 2009

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, today gave its backing to a Scottish Enterprise-funded report on the nation’s digital economy which recommends that the Scottish Government launch a pilot programme of tax breaks and fiscal benefits to support the Dundee games sector next year to boost its global competitiveness. The report, Digital Inspiration, a Strategy for Scotland’s Digital Media Industry, calls for greater recognition of Scotland’s digital media sector, better engagement with the industry, and greater national ambition for the sector.

Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:

“Now that HM Treasury has failed dismally to back the Scottish and indeed, the wider UK games industry with a Games Tax Relief in the Pre-Budget Report, it is even more important that the Scottish Parliament and Government take action to address this deficiency.

“TIGA will continue to campaign vigorously for a UK wide Games Tax Relief, more generous R&D tax credits and other fiscal measures to support our sector. In the meantime, we support Digital Inspiration and urge the Scottish Parliament and Government to back its key recommendations in respect of the video games industry.”
