Darksiders II pushed back to August

The team at Vigil is looking to give the title some added polish

THQ, which is struggling to become profitable again and just trimmed its loss expectations, has announced that one of its AAA projects is going to need some extra time before it's shipped. Darksiders II, originally expected by the end of June, will now be released in August.

THQ's Danny Bilson has previously said that his company would not ship the important sequel until it's ready, and the team at Vigil stressed in an FAQ on the official Darksiders website that the delay truly is just to add polish.

"It's just a short delay, but we promise the game you'll have in August will be well worth the wait! This is great news for the team at Vigil, because it allows additional time for polish and to ensure that all aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting. In game development, more time is always a good thing for quality and the Vigil team is dedicated to providing the definitive Darksiders experience," the developer wrote.

Vigil also mentioned that the recent layoffs at the company had no impact on the game's development and the game's delay also had nothing to do with the Wii U's launch coming later in the year.

Vigil added, "Darksiders II is substantially larger game than its predecessor and the ambition of this project requires extra time to polish to the high standards that Vigil Games and THQ are committed to."

Given THQ's financial situation and the publisher's more streamlined approach and focus on fewer, higher quality core titles, Darksiders II will be a very important release this August.
