Newport Business School course sends forth first female graduate.

When Stephanie Hill receives her degree in Computer Games Development & Artificial Intelligence from Newport Business School, she will have the added bonus of knowing she is the first woman to graduate from the course.
“It’s great to be the first woman to have done this and I’m especially pleased as I’ve come from an all girls school to study what is still a very male-dominated subject,” said 20-year-old Stephanie, a former pupil of Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School in Barry.
Stephanie has always enjoyed playing computer games and realised that computer games is a growing industry where she stood a good chance of getting a job she would really enjoy doing.
“I chose to study at the University of Wales, Newport because of the variety of courses on offer here and the fact that I could commute easily from my home in Barry. The tutors have been very helpful and really know what they’re talking about. I’ve enjoyed studying at Newport and having access to such great facilities as the computer suites and library.”
Stephanie enjoys playing role playing games and first person shooters. Her graduate project was a game she created in partnership with two other students entitled ‘Gravity Man’. Set in 1940s Wales, it puts the player in the role of a man who gains super powers when a meteor lands near him. She worked on the artificial intelligence profiles of the characters within the game and animated the body actions.
“I’m now looking forward to getting a job in the computer games industry as a programmer. It’s a male dominated industry but that doesn’t bother me. More women should be getting into making computer and video games and helping to create more non-violent games,” she added.
