Child's Play raises over $1 million for children's charities

Industry beats donations target within weeks

Child's Play, the community-based games industry charity founded by Penny Arcade comic creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, has raised more than USD 1 million just weeks into its latest appeal.

The appeal began in mid November and aims to raise money to buy books, games and toys for hospitals around the world. The total raised currently stands at USD 1,010,680.

"This is Child's Play's seventh year and this is the fastest we have ever gotten to the million dollar mark. Considering everything that's going on, that's just astounding," Krahulik wrote on the Penny Arcade site.

By the end of the appeal, the charity hopes to have exceeded last year's total of USD 1.4 million. The money raised so far has come partly from early sponsorship by companies including Microsoft, Sony Online, Harmonix and Amazon.com.

Details of events and other ways of supporting the gamer's charity can be found on the official website.
