Cheeky and Llamasoft bring classic GridRunner++ to Mobile

Friday, 8 July; Corfu, Greece (Cheeky) and the Cow Barn, West Wales (Llamasoft): Today Cheeky announced the mobile release of the classic Jeff Minter/Llamasoft game, GridRunner++. Written by veteran coder Mark Ripley over a period of five months, the original PC game is now available for a number of Nokia and Sony Ericsson handsets. Visitors to http://www.ch-ee-ky.com can also play the online demo.

A retro style shoot-em-up, GridRunner++ features wave after wave of increasingly ferocious and insane opponents in fifty glorious, retina scorching, psychedelic themed parallax-scrolling levels.

Wireless gaming has never before seen such smooth, full-screen scrolling, coupled with incredible particle effects and "in the zone" gameplay.

The game is available worldwide via Cheeky's distribution partners and direct from Cheeky at http://www.ch-ee-ky.com.

Mark Ripley, Cheeky Games: "Mobile GR++ is one of the most technically challenging projects I've ever done. Taking a fast-action PC game, with so many visual effects and computations, squeezing it down to a tiny 140K file and 500K RAM, whilst keeping the speed as fast as possible has been a real labour of love for me. The results though were worth it - it's unlike any other mobile game out there."

Acclaim for the PC version of GridRunner++

"Brutally addictive. One mouse, one button, shoot lots of relentlessly hostile everyday objects and icons, collect sheep to boost bonus multiplier. Minter at his most relaxed and accessible" Edge

"GridRunner++ is a mile-long insectoid monster, secreting lysergic compounds... Buy the thing. No excuses. Annihilate now. It rules the old skool like Gripper Stebson." PC Gamer

"A hectic, weird, intuitive, pretty, noisy, defiantly old-skool blast at a downright silly price." Gamesmaster
