Chahi: XBLA, PSN "the perfect platform" for risky games

Another World creator celebrates the freedom and pricing of digital distribution

Another World creator Eric Chahi – currently working on new title Project Dust for Ubisoft– has claimed that XBLA and PSN are ideal for more adventurous games.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz recently, he argued that the key benefits of console digital distribution were "Freedom, freedom and freedom."

Added Chahi, "There's no distribution or retail to worry about - no manufacture or production costs, so it's less risky for a publisher to sign an original game. I think it's the perfect platform for this kind of game that's not really mainstream."

Risk-taking wasn't the only boon he saw in XBLA and PSN, however. "At retail games are more expensive, whereas on XBLA and PSN they're cheaper, so you can reach more people."

However, Chahi also revealed that "Communicating on an original project is always challenging," hinting that Dust had at one point been hard to sell to his bosses at Ubisoft.
