Carmack hints at Quake mobile title on the way

Doom creator discusses bringing PC's most-loved franchises to mobiles

id Software founder John Carmack, the programming genius behind hit PC titles including Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake, has told MobileIndustry.biz that he is looking into creating a mobile title based on Quake 3 Arena.

Carmack was speaking in an interview, which will be published on this site on Monday, about id Software's first mobile game - the Doom RPG, which brought the hit PC title to mobile handsets in a radically new form.

Asked what lies in the future for id's mobile development, Carmack responded: "Probably not more RPGs based on id titles, but there is another mobile genre-swapping idea that we may be pursuing based on Quake 3 Arena."

Also in the interview, the celebrated developer discusses his first experiences of mobile development, his involvement with the Doom RPG project, and why the shorter turnover times of mobile games is such a huge advantage.

Check back on Monday to hear more from John Carmack on mobile development.
