Canessa leaves PopCap for Blizzard

Former XBLA and casual online exec joins World of Warcraft developer

PopCap's Greg Canessa has left the casual games company to join online giant Blizzard.

Canessa was originally behind Microsoft's online gaming strategy and Xbox Live Arcade, before joining PopCap in February 2007.

"We are sorry to see him go and we wish him the very best," said PopCap's Garth Chouteau, speaking to Joystiq.

"It's been a pleasure working with him and his move is largely predicated on it being a big personal and professional opportunity for him. This isn't going to have any material impact on our console presence and our strategy with respect to the consoles and the DS and the areas that Greg was heading up. We're still very committed to those."

Blizzard has not yet issued details of Canessa's new role within the company.
