Canada to award $1 million in competition

Telefilm Canada, the country's federal cultural agency, will award a CAD 1 million cash prize on Saturday to one of four nominations for the Great Canadian Video Game Competition.

Telefilm Canada, the country's federal cultural agency, will award a CAD 1 million cash prize on Saturday to one of four nominations for the Great Canadian Video Game Competition.

The event will take place as part of the Vancouver International Digital Festival's opening gala, and is designed to reward Canadian developers who build their own original IP, and is judged across three rounds: innovation; product development; and commercialisation.

VIDFEST takes place from September 22 - 25, with the opening gala hosted by the Vancouver International Film Centre.

The nominations for the award are:

Big Blue Bubble (London, ON): Hobby Shop

Cerebral Vortex Games (St Catharines, ON): Ambush! Trivia

MindHabits Inc (Montreal, QC): MindHabits Trainer

Hothead Games Inc (Vancouver, BC): SWARM!

The People's Choice Award will also be announced at the event by Telefilm executive director Wayne Clarkson.
