New senior technology position created as Unreal Engine enters next growth phase

Raleigh, N.C. - January 27th, 2006 - Epic Games, a world leader in videogame development and makers of the award-winning Unreal® Engine, announces it is looking to bolster its technology team to manage its exponential growth in the engine licensing business.

Epic is creating a new position for Lead Engine Programmer, which will head the Unreal Engine team. This position will work hand in hand with Technical Director, Tim Sweeney, in developing and delivering the next generation of Unreal technology. The success of Unreal Engine 3 in 2005, and the anticipated growth in the coming years, has led to the need for a dedicated person to manage the world-class team behind this next generation technology. Job details for this, and other open positions, are listed at www.epicgames.com/epic_jobs.html

"We're pleased that Unreal is the preferred engine choice for leading publishers and developers in the industry. Combined with our growing partnerships with Sony and Microsoft on their next-generation consoles, the Unreal Engine is going to see some truly exciting times ahead. This Lead Engine Programmer position is the opportunity of a lifetime, to play a crucial role in shaping the technology that the games industry has come to recognize as the very best," says Tim Sweeney, Epic's Founder and Technical Director.

Michael Capps, Epic's President, says, "Epic is a company built on world-class talent, so recruiting the best people in the industry is critical. We're always open to top-notch resumes, so even if we're not advertising for a specific role, we encourage the industry's leaders to apply. Our hiring process starts with exacting skills assessments, but it ends with an on-site interview process that involves dozens of people in formal and informal settings. Team fit is just as important to us as skills - we make maintaining our great team dynamic a priority."

Epic Games has seen enormous success and continues to grow. Unreal Engine 3 recently won Game Developer Magazine's Frontline Award for Best Game Engine for 2005 - the second consecutive year it has held this title. They recently designed and moved into their own 30,000 square-foot purpose-built office building in Cary, North Carolina, with a massive motion capture facility, gym, arcade, fully-stocked kitchen, and windowed offices for their developers.
