Blood Bowl

Spilling onto UK store shelves in September.

French based publisher Focus Home Interactive today announce that Blood Bowl, the video game adaptation of the legendary games workshop board game, will receive a September UK release to follow on from the successful launch across key European territories last week.

Blood Bowl, a violent mix of Warhammer Fantasy and American football, allows players to create the ultimate “fantasy” sports teams. Coaches can build bone-crushing teams of Orcs, Wood Elves, Humans, Dwarfs and many more fantastic creatures, and then throw them into the stadium for the ultimate blood sport. Blood Bowl is strategic, action-packed and violent, and requires coaches to utilise their best tactics and team design. And not forgetting a dose of pure ruthless bloodlust!

Speaking about the UK launch Cédric Lagarrigue , Focus Home Interactive COO, said “We are still in discussion with a number of publishing partners in the UK and will be in a position to announce full details over the next few weeks.” He continued “I think it’s fair to say that, even with the popular Games Workshop license behind it, there were some people who felt that Blood Bowl may struggle in the current climate. The excellent sales that have been achieved in France, Germany and Spain speak for themselves and have laid those doubts firmly to rest. Blood Bowl is now all set to repeat that success in the UK, its spiritual birthplace.”

Nelson, Games Workshop Licensing Manager, added “We’re delighted with the way that Blood Bowl the video game has turned out. Cyanide and Focus have delivered a perfect conversion and met the challenge of converting the board game into a computer game.” He went on “Blood Bowl now offers multiple new ways to play the classic Games Workshop board game and, as such, it appeals to a more mainstream audience. We are proud of this version of Blood Bowl and are already working on additional teams and star players that can be added to future updates."

Released last week in Europe, Blood Bowl is already a massive hit. It reached the #4 position in the all format charts in France, while in Germany the game entered into the PC charts at position #4 in value.

Blood Bowl has been developed by Cyanide Studios and is published by Focus Home Interactive. It will be available on X360, PC, Sony PSP and Nintendo DS in September 2009.
