Bandai Namco is developing arcade games using the Cell chip from Sony's PlayStation 3.

The deal between the publisher and format holder will mark the first time that Sony's Cell processor has been used commercially outside of the PlayStation 3, reports The Mainichi Daily News.

The first arcade game to feature the Cell chip technology will be Tekken 6, the latest in its popular fighting franchise, due later this year.

Namco has previously used PlayStation 2 architecture in arcade machines for titles in the Tekken and Time Crisis series.
