Bandai Namco establishes new development team for VR, AR, MR

Bandai Namco Amusement Lab Inc. will focus on XR experiences primarily for arcades

Bandai Namco has established a new development team focused on VR, AR, and MR at its Tokyo headquarters. Dubbed Bandai Namco Amusement Laboratories, the development group will focus on creating XR tech for use in theme parks and arcades.

These will likely be focused at Bandai Namco's various Japanese-based facilities, such as VR Zone Shinjuku and VR Zone Portal. The division will work on research and planning of VR game machines for use in such locations.

It's possible that Amusement Laboratories' work may be seen outside Japan, too. Bandai Namco established two VR arcades in south England earlier this year--the first western spin-offs of VR Zone Shinjuku. More arcades are planned in England for the remainder of the year.

Bandai Namco's new division will be established officially on October 1 of this year.
