BAFTA Announces Headline Sponsor Of Its British Academy Video Games Awards In 2007

September 4 2007, London. BAFTA announced today that PC World, the UK's leading chain of computing superstores, will become the headline sponsor of the British Academy Video Games Awards held on October 23 at Battersea Evolution in London's Battersea Park.

The British Academy Video Games Awards recognise excellence in games development. This year's Awards received a record number of entries; 164 titles were entered for consideration across 13 categories resulting in 1028 individual entries, an increase of 66% on last year.

The nominations will be announced on September 25.

Chris McShane, Head of Trading said "Last year we were joint sponsor of the Awards but we have taken the decision to make a real commitment to the prestigious Awards by taking the headline sponsorship to really show our support for the gaming industry. Video Games form a major part of our business - consoles, games and accessories - and the creativity and performance of games which BAFTA recognises through its Awards is improving every year making this one of the most exciting forms of entertainment to be supporting."

Hilary Bevan Jones, Chairman of the Academy said "The Academy is delighted to be partnering with PC World. They are an incredibly powerful brand and by working together I am confident we will bring the BAFTA-nominated titles to the attention of a huge audience".

Table bookings have now started and further details of the British Academy Video Games Awards in association with PC World, including information on all categories, can be found on BAFTA's website www.bafta.org/games
