Atlas Technology

MMOG development suite that hooks into Unreal Engine 3.

SHANGHAI, China – March 16, 2009 – Epic Games China, Ltd. today announced the release of its Atlas Technology massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) development suite. Consisting of persistent world server technology and MMOG content creation and management tools that work directly with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3, Atlas Technology provides developers with a solid foundation on which to build MMOGs, casual and session based games, and community and e-commerce applications.

Atlas Technology extends Unreal Engine 3’s functionality to support persistent online games. In addition to be being used for Epic Games China’s unannounced projects, Atlas Technology has undergone a private evaluation process for the past year, and has been licensed by game developers in North America, Asia and Europe.

The award-winning Unreal Engine 3 is most frequently associated with tremendously successful console titles such as Epic’s own Gears of War series, BioWare’s Mass Effect, and 2K Games’ BioShock. However, the technology has also has been used to create numerous successful and highly anticipated MMOGs including Lineage II, Blade & Soul, A.V.A Online, and MStar.

Until now, using UE3 for persistent online game development required intensive engineering effort to adapt third-party persistent server solutions or to build proprietary server applications. Atlas Technology saves developers time and money by providing a purpose built, pre-integrated solution to use as a starting point.

“The increasingly competitive MMOG landscape is forcing developers to commit to exceptional production values. UE3 combined with Atlas Technology gives development teams a firm foundation to help them bring their products to market,” said Jay Wilbur, vice president of Epic Games.

“UE3 is already a proven and powerful MMO engine,” said Paul Meegan, CEO of Epic Games China, “With Atlas Technology, we’re now providing a purpose built solution that takes care of a lot of the heavy lifting and Unreal client modification.”

Epic Games China will be demoing to interested parties at the Game Developers Conference 2009, March 25-27, in Epic Games’ expo suite, ES 144 in West Hall. To make an appointment, contact Mark.Rein@EpicGames.com.
