Rumour: Aspyr Media cuts staff by over 50%

Reports suggest "only a handful" remain at Mac conversion experts

Apple Mac publisher Aspyr Media may have seen over 50 per cent of staff made redundant according to the latest online rumours.

Website Big Download cites "several unnamed but reliable sources" at the company as indicating that more than half of staff members have been made redundant and that "only a handful" remain at the company's Austin, Texas offices.

The company was found in 1996 and has remained the most prolific publisher of videogames for the Mac forma ever since, enabling ports of many hit PC titles to the format. However, as increased compatibility with PC technology has made specific ports less essential, the company has begun to diversify into publishing on Windows and portable consoles.

Most recently the firm was responsible for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network ports of the original Call Of Duty title for PC.

The company is yet to make any official comment on the rumours.
