Midway confirms interest in Mortal Kombat sale

But denies it wants to offload franchise despite million dollar incentives

Midway Games has admitted that there is interest in the sale of its biggest franchise, Mortal Kombat.

But despite the publisher offering million dollar incentives to sell the series, the company insists it's not a priority for the firm.

"There are conversations for certain," said Geoff Mogilner, spokesperson for the company, to MTV.

"I can’t say whether this is something that would have happened otherwise. There’s definitely interest in Mortal Kombat. I’m not going to lie about that.

"It’s not our goal to sell Mortal Kombat," he insisted. "It is something that, in the world of scenarios, it is something that could happen here. But it’s not something that we as a company are going for."

The company is clearly facing bleak choices about its future - yesterday it was revealed that new owner Mark Thomas has declared the publisher is "haemorrhaging cash at an alarming rate," and is expected to burn through USD 12.4 million by early May.
